Top 4 Tech Tips for Boosting Mobile Security

Mobile devices are particularly vulnerable with emerging ransomware threats. See below 4 Top Tech tips for enhancing mobile device management within your workplace...

1. Set a pin or passcode.

This may sound like an obvious one but it’s overlooked by so many users! Your passcode is your first line of defence and often the prospect of needing to break a code is a deterrent against theft in itself. For enhanced protection, be sure to seek out those device manufacturers that offer the ability to automatically wipe your device after a few unsuccessful attempts at entry. You can even add an extra encryption layer for sensitive data.

2. Remote locate and wipe tools.

There are thousands of applications out there, and many involve more than just crushing candy or shooting birds at pigs. Certain software can help you locate your lost or stolen device through its GPS and wipe remotely should need be.

3. Keep your device clean.

Applying an Antivirus and Malware scanner is highly recommended. Your phones are mini-computers, and just like your “big” computer – they need to be cleaned up from time to time. Malware and Virus threats can compromise information stored on your mobile devices. Malware has a snowball effect, and can continuously pile up until it slows downs or stops your device. Be sure to keep your end points clean and secure from outsiders and look for antivirus applications that scan your downloaded apps and devices for any threats. What you want is a defence line that will give you a heads up if any malicious activity is detected from your device’s browser.

4. Be wary of unsecured, unknown Wi-Fi networks

An unsecured Wi-FI network can seem like a great find but can prove dangerous. These Wi-Fi networks can be used to perform a ‘middleman’ attack, where inputted data, passwords and personal information can be captured by a third party.
