In 2022, 1, 243 security incidents were discovered, which, believe it or not, is a 14.8% decrease from 2021, however, it’s still far too many. Cyber incidents come in waves, and businesses can’t become complacent following a dip in attacks for a 12-month period.

Last year, the public sector was the most vulnerable to cyber-attacks and data breaches. IT Governance research found 213 publicly disclosed incidents, which represented one in five of all security incidents that we discovered during the year.
Other significant contributors to 2022’s total, included the technology sector (115 incidents), education sector (95), professional services (63) and retail sectors (62).
